A simple and delicious slow cooker recipe for tender, smoky BBQ pulled pork sliders perfect for parties and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 pounds pork shoulder (pork butt), well-marbled
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (240 ml), smoky and tangy variety recommended
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (25 g)
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika (7 g)
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (2 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (6 g)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper (1 g)
  • About 12 small slider buns (Hawaiian rolls recommended)
  • Optional toppings: pickles, coleslaw, extra BBQ sauce, sliced jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder but leave some for flavor. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder evenly, pressing it into the meat.
  3. Place sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Place the seasoned pork on top of the onion layer. Pour BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar evenly over the pork.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours until pork is fork-tender.
  6. Remove pork from slow cooker and shred using two forks, discarding large chunks of fat.
  7. Return shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir into the cooking juices and sauce.
  8. Spoon generous portions of pulled pork onto slider buns and add optional toppings as desired.
  9. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

Cook on low for best tenderness. If pork isn’t shredding easily, cook longer. Reserve some cooking liquid to moisten pork if dry. Serve sliders immediately to avoid soggy buns. Can substitute turkey breast or jackfruit for variations. For gluten-free, use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps.
