A bold and flavorful homemade BBQ sauce that balances the sweetness of fresh peaches with the fiery heat of habanero peppers. Perfect for grilling and adding a spicy twist to your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium fresh peaches, peeled and chopped
  • 12 habanero peppers, seeded if less heat is desired
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop 3 medium peaches into small chunks. Mince 3 garlic cloves, finely chop 1 small yellow onion, and carefully deseed and chop 1-2 habanero peppers (wear gloves!).
  2. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, stirring occasionally until translucent and fragrant, about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped peaches and habaneros to the pan. Stir to combine and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the peaches to soften and release their juices.
  4. Pour in 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Sprinkle 1 tsp smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine.
  5. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, uncovered, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking until the peaches break down and the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Remove from heat and transfer the mixture to a blender or use an immersion blender in the pot. Blend until smooth but still slightly textured, about 30 seconds. Add a splash of water or more vinegar if the sauce is too thick.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or additional brown sugar or vinegar as needed.
  8. Let the sauce cool to room temperature before transferring to a clean jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

Handle habanero peppers with gloves to avoid skin irritation. Do not rush simmering to avoid burning sugars. Blend sauce to desired texture, leaving some chunkiness if preferred. Sauce can be made milder by using fewer habaneros or substituting with jalapeños. Store in airtight container in fridge for up to 2 weeks; flavors improve after a day or two. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
