Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20 blend for juicy burgers)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup whiskey (choose your favorite Irish whiskey for authenticity)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 4 burger buns (toasted for extra flavor)
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • Leaf lettuce
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Optional toppings: caramelized onions, pickles

Instructions

  1. Mix the Patty Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indent in the center to help them cook evenly.
  3. Cook the Whiskey Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine whiskey, brown sugar, ketchup, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Set aside.
  4. Cook the Patties: Heat your skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Add a slice of cheddar cheese to each patty during the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt.
  5. Toast the Buns: While the patties cook, toast your burger buns in the skillet or on the grill until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: Spread a generous layer of whiskey sauce on the bottom bun. Place a lettuce leaf, followed by a patty with melted cheese, sliced tomatoes, and any additional toppings you love. Finish with the top bun.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!
