A simple and crowd-pleasing chocolate fondue bar setup that brings people together with a rich blend of dark and milk chocolate and a variety of dippers for entertaining fun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225g) high-quality dark chocolate (60-70% cocoa recommended)
  • 4 oz (115g) milk chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Fresh strawberries, washed and hulled
  • Banana slices (firm but ripe)
  • Marshmallows (mini or regular sized)
  • Pound cake or angel food cake, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • Pretzel sticks or twists
  • Dried apricots or figs
  • Almonds or chopped toasted hazelnuts
  • Crispy cooked bacon strips (optional)
  • Chopped fresh mint leaves (for garnish)
  • Shredded coconut (unsweetened, for texture)
  • Sea salt flakes (to sprinkle)

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the dark and milk chocolate bars into small, even pieces (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the heavy cream just until it starts to steam, but do not boil (3-4 minutes).
  3. Remove the cream from heat and immediately add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for a minute to soften, then stir gently until smooth and glossy. Add vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt, stirring to combine (3-5 minutes).
  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into your fondue pot or slow cooker. Set to low heat or ‘warm’ setting to keep the chocolate fluid but not hot. Stir occasionally to maintain smoothness and keep warm throughout entertaining.
  5. While the chocolate melts, wash and slice fruits, cube cake, and arrange marshmallows, pretzels, nuts, and bacon on serving trays. Make sure everything is bite-sized for easy dipping (10-15 minutes).
  6. Arrange the fondue pot centrally on the table with forks or skewers nearby. Surround with platters of dippers and small bowls of garnishes like chopped nuts and shredded coconut for guests to sprinkle if they wish.
  7. Encourage guests to dip and mix flavors! Keep extra chocolate warm and prepared to top up the fondue pot if needed. If chocolate thickens, stir in a splash more warm cream to loosen.

Notes

Use a double boiler or slow cooker to prevent burning chocolate. Keep extra cream on hand to loosen thickened chocolate. Avoid watery fruits to prevent chocolate from seizing. For dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with coconut milk and use dairy-free chocolate. Store leftover chocolate in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week and reheat gently.
