These easy-to-make chocolate covered pretzel rods are a perfect patriotic treat featuring a salty-sweet crunch with red, white, and blue sprinkles. Ideal for summer celebrations, they come together quickly and are a crowd-pleaser for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Pretzel rods (sturdy, thick)
  • 12 ounces (340 g) chocolate chips or melting wafers (milk, dark, or white chocolate)
  • ½ cup (90 g) patriotic sprinkles (red, white, and blue jimmies, nonpareils, or sugar stars)
  • Optional toppings: crushed nuts, sea salt flakes, edible glitter
  • Wax paper or parchment paper (for setting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper and have sprinkles ready in a small bowl or plate.
  2. Melt 12 ounces (340 g) of chocolate chips or melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each until smooth and glossy (about 2-3 minutes). Alternatively, melt using a double boiler.
  3. Hold each pretzel rod by one end and dip it into the melted chocolate, covering about two-thirds of the rod. For a lighter coating, drizzle chocolate over the pretzel with a spoon.
  4. Immediately sprinkle the red, white, and blue sprinkles generously over the chocolate-coated section before the chocolate sets. Press gently if needed.
  5. Place the dipped pretzel rods on the prepared baking sheet and let them set at room temperature for about 15 minutes, or chill in the fridge for 10 minutes for faster setting.
  6. Optional: Drizzle white chocolate in thin lines over the rods once the first layer has set and let harden completely before serving or storing.

Notes

Use good quality chocolate like Ghirardelli or Lindt for smooth melting and better flavor. Work quickly when sprinkling to ensure sprinkles stick well. Keep pretzels dry to avoid clumping. Reheat chocolate gently if it starts to harden during dipping. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
