Ultimate Concord Grape Pie

Concord Grape Pie - featured image

This pie is a celebration of autumn, bursting with the sweet-tart flavor of Concord grapes nestled in a buttery, flaky crust. Perfect for family gatherings, holiday feasts, or simply treating yourself.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups fresh Concord grapes, rinsed and stems removed
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, diced
  • Pie crust for a double-crust pie (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the Concord grapes and remove the stems. Separate the skins from the pulp by gently squeezing each grape—save both parts.
  2. Place the grape pulp in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pulp begins to soften. Remove from heat and press through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the grape pulp, grape skins, sugar, flour, lemon juice, and butter. Mix until the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  4. Roll out one portion of your pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the grape filling into the crust.
  5. Roll out the second portion of pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal the edges and cut small slits in the top crust for ventilation.
  6. Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. This helps the filling set properly.

Notes

If your edges start to brown too quickly, cover them with foil or a pie crust shield to prevent burning. Let the pie cool fully to allow the filling to set properly.
