This no-peel apple pie is a quick and easy homemade dessert that combines rustic charm with warm spices, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized unpeeled apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 rounds of pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
  2. Wash the apples thoroughly, then slice into thin wedges, leaving the peels on.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  4. Roll out one round of pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges, leaving a slight overhang.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into the crust, spreading it evenly.
  6. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter.
  7. Roll out the second round of dough and place it over the apples. Seal the edges by crimping or pressing with a fork.
  8. Make 4-5 slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  9. Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  10. Bake the pie in the oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  11. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a rack for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

If the edges of your crust start browning too quickly, cover them with foil to avoid burning. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added indulgence.
