This Kentucky classic dessert combines gooey chocolate chips, crunchy pecans, and a hint of bourbon in a buttery crust. Perfect for holidays or any special occasion, it’s easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pie crust
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and place the rack in the center position.
  2. Roll out your pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan. Trim and crimp the edges, then set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and bourbon (if using), and whisk until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, whisking gently until the batter is smooth.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped pecans using a spatula, ensuring they’re evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly. Smooth the top with your spatula.
  7. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is set. The center may jiggle slightly but will firm up as it cools.
  8. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

For extra flavor, toast the pecans in a dry skillet before adding them to the batter. If the edges of your pie crust brown too quickly, cover them with strips of aluminum foil halfway through baking.
